Hi,

My daughter is 22 and has been on meds since 7years old.  She has been diagnosed as BP, Borderline and severe Anxiety.  She cannot hold a job because of anxiety and not able to see "gray".  Everything should have a right answer and any wrongs have to be fixed, NOW!(according to her)  She has a high IQ but only a GED, school was too many changes in a day for her to deal with.  No way could she do college.  She knows she has an illness and takes her meds however we cannot get her stable enough to work.  She cleans and does work around the house but stays mostly to herself or FB friends.  NO real friends.  I am afraid she will never be able to be on her own.  Had the same Psychiatrist since she was 7, he never recommend she get in house treatment, I had to ask.  Then he forgot that we sent her.  He gives the meds and that is all.  We cannot find a counselor that seems to have an impact on her.  They all tell her to use "self talk therapy".  She is articulate and KNOWs the crazyiness of her thoughts and inability to take change or disappointment.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

Hello, Donnas Mom & Welcome

I'm so sorry for all the troubles your daughter has had, and the stress and frustration that you have been going through! Every parent on this Board can commiserate with that, and knows your pain... .

My own adult (38) son was diagnosed with BPD in April of 2013, and since then he's been doing well in recovery. A lot of his problems were similar to your daughter's (besides some others), but he is doing really well now. Besides the DBT he learned at the Dual Diagnosis Center that diagnosed his BPD, he still attends Out-Patient Therapy, Psychiatric Therapy and Neurofeedback Therapy. They are ALL very helpful to him, but the Neurofeedback Therapy has been the most helpful for him in his recovery. Is that something that could be available to your daughter?

If you have an interest in learning more about NFT (Neurofeedback Therapy), you can click on the green link at the bottom of my post; it will take you to his story and would explain how it works. It might be something your daughter would find exciting and helpful... .

I'm really glad you've found us, and want to encourage you to keep reading all you can on this site (the links to the right-hand side of this page are particularly useful), and to keep posting your story and questions. We want to help you, Donnas Mom
