For anyone who is having anxiety, trouble sleep, and/or chest pain try Magnesium pills. I have been taking 250 mg 2x a day morning and night for the last few days and the chest pains have been greatly reduced. Thank God for the male nurse who mentioned it.
Turns out prolonged severe stress like the kind I have been having for getting fired 3 times in a year along with the normal mix of family chaos can deplete ones magnesium rather quickly. So when mom and her bs is not around I get the pains down, and when she starts up the pain is too much to bear.
It is really frightening when you think you are going to have a heart attack. They actually give people a shot of magnesium sulfate when having a heart attack. I am hoping that this is the case for me and by taking these pills I will be ok.
I am still going to insist on seeing a heart doctor as I need peace of mind. The fear of heart attack is strong and won't be gone for me until the doc gives me a clean bill of health.
Magnesium deficiency is very common as the soil in many areas has been depleted of it.

I'm glad that you are getting help from some of the symptoms that you are having, and most of all I am glad that you are planning on going to see a doctor for what you are experiencing. That is for sure the safest and best way to confirm that you are on the right path, IJustwantpeace. It's good to be safe and know you are okay.
So many adults of pwBPD experience many different physical and/or mental stressors and symptoms. Being here on the board and having listening and validating ears to listen is often medicine for our souls. I'm glad that you are taking the time to share with us, and hope that is also helping to relieve some of your anxiety.
And just in case you need this, some of the best medicine of all... .

Thanks Wools,
I know my story is not unlike others here, and if I make it through this hurdle, and get my fear of heart attack down I will be well on my way to a happier life. I can't really even process all this stuff so well when I am not feeling good.
The last year has been a battle, and at times I have wondered if I am broken. Just trying to get through this latest hurdle and hoping things will get better.

Hi Justwantpeace,
How are you today? It is one of the hardest things in the world to try and hold yourself together when you feel like you are a jumble of pieces held together by glue and string and duct tape. Quite the picture if you step back to look at it!
But truly you
aren't
broken, even though you may feel that you are. None of us are broken, but our feelings may tell us that we are. I often feel that way too, and to just allow myself to feel that way is okay.
The good news is that we are like a puzzle, and none of the pieces are lost, they are just not all put together into the beautiful picture of us. As you take care of yourself (let's hear it for each tiny step of self-care
), one more puzzle piece is turned over, and the colors are seen. When you allow yourself to be in touch with a feeling you are having, then another piece is turned up.
Keep going. I want to see the wonderful finished picture of you someday!

Wools,
Got to say I continue to feel better and better about things. Taking the Magnesium is greatly reducing the chest pain and anxiety I have been experiencing. I did not really understand how this whole thing works until now.
BPD causes crisis ->Non BPD gets stressed ->Magnesium gets used
Under normal circumstances not a big deal, but when wave after wave of crisis keeps beating the non BPD up the Magnesium in your body gets completely depleted. Wave after wave means once crisis after another for years on end. ie. death, divorce, sickness, jobs loss etc... .
When you Magnesium gets low enough you become at risk of sudden death. So to think your BPD is going to kill you is not crazy it is fact. Many people experience this at any age. This girl is a young teen and has panic attacks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDLjktRxJK4
If they were do to a proper RBC Magnesium test no doubt she would be low. Magnesium is the #1 mineral used to regulate the stress hormone cortisol and lets your muscles relax. Maybe the mod will turn this into a sticky note as I won't need to be here if the doctor gives me a clean bill of health.

This TED talk details the panic cycle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8FNcOBkhN4
Man thank God for that male nurse who told me about Magnesium. Why the heck don't doctors give this out is beyond me. Xanex did nothing to help me, but Magnesium knocked it out of the park.
I was so scared of dying of the chest pain from the next BPD induced problem that I would do anything for relief.

I wonder how many people could be helped by magnesium? There is some 2 million videos on youtube.com on anxiety and another on 200,000 on panic attacks.
Now if you type
panic attack and magnesium
the results drop from 200,000 to 2,000 so about 1%. For anxiety and magnesium the numbers drop from 2,000,000 to 20,000 so 10% a bit better. That leaves 90% of anxiety suffers unaware of magnesium deficiency. Anxiety affects some 40,000,000 Americans.

I hear you! What you say is very important. I have been suffering from insomnia for years now (trouble staying asleep). It of course was made many times worse during on/off relationship drama and acute once the relationship broke down. I have discovered a non addictive herbal sleep supplement and would you know it contains magnesium! Thus far I have clocked up 9 hours uninterrupted sleep one night and 11 hours another. It is like a miracle! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I feel like a new person already. Best of luck with your own physical and emotional recovery!

disillusionedandsore,
If you are feeling better due to the herbal supplement keep it up! Magnesium is found in herbs like basil and green leafy stuff like Kale, so it is quite possible that your the herbs in your supplement have Magnesium.
Having your potassium, calcium and magnesium all balanced is critical to good health. For us survivors it is especially important. Modern life is busy and much more stressful than the pre internet days add on one or more dysfunctional family members and you body is going to burn through these minerals at a very rapid rate.

We'll it has been close to a month so I figured it would be a good time update this post and post my progress with Magnesium supplementation.
So things have been much improved for me for the last month. I have been very calm and my emotions have been in check right up until the last few days when I had to take 800mg of Ibuprofen due to having a tooth pulled for pain.
The Ibuprofen 800 MG gave me bizarre dreams and raised my anxiety level way up.
The good news is that I have trained myself to know what is going on in my body and not to react to it emotionally. If I drink too much coffee it also raises my anxiety level.
I know keeping myself healthy is key to being able to deal with BPD family members. Even getting along better with mom. Setting boundaries and saying no to requires that would create a dysfunctional situation.
So all good news to report. I look at my earlier post a few months ago and I was a total mess. Very grateful to all of your for your help.

Thanks for the update ijustwantpeace and great to hear you've been doing well
It sounds like you've made some significant progress. Keeping yourself healthy is indeed very important, otherwise you are potentially more vulnerable to difficult behaviors from BPD family-members. Boundaries are also essential for protecting yourself and preserving your well-being

Wow, I'm glad magnesium works for you. The only things that works for me is medication prescribed by my doctor, but magnesium is a good thing to take during the day to stay calm.
