Anyone can have PTSD. It's also important to note that PTSD is a clinical diagnoses with specific criteria, but a person does not have to satisfy the criteria for PTSD to be traumatized.
BPD arises from childhood trauma(s), plus other factors, so basically anyone with BPD (or any personality disorder) is a person living with trauma.
Think of it this way- a trauma is defined as an event or experience after which the person can no longer understand themselves, the world around them, or their relationship between the two in the same way as they did previous to that experience. It's, by definition, a life altering event.

Yes it is quite common for them to co-occur. My ex suffers from both.

Getting clarity and picking up pieces to get my life back. I'm a victim and have been traumatized by this. My mistake was believing her and thinking she would change. Thought was just PTSD
Despite the no contact order and all my pent up anger I can forgive her and hope she can become healthy

Actually there's been an article circulating around Facebook about BPD and ptsd being very similar in some ways, both arising out of trauma. This article is actually from an organization for military with ptsd and it talks a lot about BPD. Personally I've met vets both on and offline who have confessed they have both disorders.

I would look up the high conflict institute,
www.highconflictinstitute.com
they help people dealing with high conflict people who threaten to sue. This is a really good book that I borrowed from the library.
www.unhookedbooks.com/its-all-your-fault/
It covers situations where people threaten to sue.

I want to sue for personal injury non economic damage. She's a damaged person but she deserves to get proper help and her parents who I should hate deserve to help their daughter

Yes, mine had it pretty badly.
However, I want to let you know. Just because they have ptsd, doesn't mean the event ever happened. Doesn't mean it didn't happen either.
BPD people are very good at rewriting their stories to the point of believing and acting on it. In my opinion, they do it so they can get sympathy from others.
So it's really hard to know what actually did happen. The symptoms of ptsd is always real, either way though... and I believe they do suffer from it, whether it be fake or real event.

I believe there can be any combination of things going on.
My ex also served in the military, so I'm sure some of it was PTSD and BPD. But I also wondered, how someone highly emotional with BPD could even serve in the military. He often would flake on simple tasks. Any thoughts on this? He was in denial for a long time that the military stuff even affected him. I got him to talk only one time about the really dark things he had to do. He was one of the scouts in Afg anastan that had to kidnap people from their homes. I don't understand how he could do that when really simple questions would flip him out... .

Sounds awful to put this into words, but a lot of BPD women have false rape and abuse stories going on. It's a simple way to elicit sympathy, gauge your reaction to see if you're the right kind of person for them and also it excuses an awful lot of horrible behaviour down the line. Again, I feel bad for even saying it, but it's a pretty well known thing, that it's a good catch-all back story for a BPD woman that serves a number of purposes.
As I understand it BPD pretty much is an extravagant form of PTSD and sexual abuse is a very common foundation for the disorder. But it's also a well worn lie for some ungodly reason. So tread carefully if you're building your whole understanding of the woman round that particular incident that may or may not have happened.

This past year my mother shared with me that she was in therapy for PTSD when I was small. I didn't ask at what specific age, but it was likely when BPD was first formulated into a diagnosis, so who knows what's really going on. In the 90s, maybe earlier, one of her therapists suggested to her in a roundabout way that she had BPD. She's smart. She intuited her T was also talking about her, not just her dad who died in 1956. My mom only told me this two years ago. An RN (so she has education and experience), she told me she thought my ex was BPD right away, but never told me.

I'm disgusted that someone would ever lie about rape. I met a rape victim and showed her pictures and she didn't think she was raped but that she is crazy.
I feel guilty for treating her like she had PTSD instead of BPD. PTSD and rape your supposed to let them know your always here for them. But that is opposiyof BPD and feel guilty messed up in that way and came off like I was chasing her when was just making sure she's ok
