Hello, it's my first time using a forum in general and I don't speak english as first language. My BPD ex broke up with me 3 days ago and I love him very much, even if he wants to stay as my best friend. One of the reasons he broke up with me is because I couldn't help him through his issues, like for example, when he felt really ugly my compliments just wouldn't work. I usually compliment him by being specific like "You're the prettiest, you have the cutest heart shaped face" etc etc. I'm really young, and just like that, I sound corny. I'm in my late teenage years while he's just turned 18 and is looking for jobs, partying with friends... I want to be helpful to him, can you please help me? It's been horrible.

Edit: we've been together for 1 year and 2 months.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry that you're going through this, it must be really difficult for you. Could you give us a bit more details as to why he split? Did you have any arguments? Did he specifically mentioned that those compliments were the reason?
