Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Child of an alcoholic narcissist. Married a man with BPD traits. Have gone to counseling for years myself. He will not go. He gets better. He gets worse. He gets better. I get confused. I kept myself busy and away with my career for years. Now I'm home more and wondering if I should just leave but after 31 of marriage I have no doubt it would get ugly. Any similar stories out there?

Hey looking up, Welcome!  I like your moniker.  Whether to stay or go is a decision only you can make, though we can help you find the right path for you.  What would you like to see happen?  What are your gut feelings?  Let us know if you have any particular questions.
