Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

I got through the splitting phase with help from the WTO email lists. I followed the advice in Splitting: Protecting yourself While Divorcing Someone with BPD or NPD- Eddy & Kreger and BIFF, and things went better than expected. During the divorce I was too focussed on getting things done to stay active in the support group. My biggest challenge has been communicating/miscommunication through lawyers. Now I’m advising others in similar situations.

I haven’t found a list of all the WTO sub-groups anywhere, so I'm not sure how tell people to get started. Since this message board is the easiest to find online I thought I would try it.

Hi ccart6,

Welcome

I'd like to welcome you to the group here at bpdfamily. I'm glad that you've found us. I'm also happy that you bring your knowledge and experience with you to share with others. It's not an easy task to navigate through the legal system when you're STBX has an invisible and serious disorder like BPD.

Can you share what happened from then until now? I can relate with the splitting phase, you're under an emotional barrage when you're ex is triggered with abandonment fear, how many kids do you have? How old are they? Do you have full custody. I'm looking forward to hearing your story.
