My ex used to choose to interpret things that I said into the negative tense even though I clarified what I meant. She even mentioned it on facebook while I was still dating her. She didn't call my name but it was directed at me. I didn't reply to it on there or in person  because I did not want to start a argument but it bothered me. She HAD to play the victim.

it makes some sense if youre a highly sensitive person with a strong rejection sensitivity. any perceived slight  is interpreted through that belief system (can possibly even cause a person to dysregulate), and feelings become facts. the frustrating thing for us, that we didnt know at the time, is that clarifying what we meant, depending on how we go about it, can even be perceived as invalidating, and the other person will dig into their position further.
