My H tried to ruin the eclipse. We set up a place on the yard to watch the eclipse and took a short break to come in to get water. While inside he began to attack me because of my faith. He began telling me I was a pagan for going out to watch the eclipse. He called me a hypocrite and wanted to know how I could justify my faith and watch the eclipse.

I failed and began to JADE. He could not accept that i thought watching the eclipse was neutral and had nothing to do with my religious faith. I found myself arguing with him. The discussion continued after we went outside. Finally I just looked at him and said, "I am not doing this. I am not going to let you take this once in a lifetime moment from me." And I sat down, put on my glasses and enjoyed it. He did too and enjoyed it.

Looking back at the conversation I realize that he was scared. Over the last week building up to the eclipse he was talking a lot about end of the world type conspiracies. He had been joking about it throughout the week and even right before he got upset. I didn't listen to him because he always talks about end of the world scenarios but today He was the one attributing some kind of supernatural event with the eclipse. I feel bad that I missed what he was saying. Have any of you figured out a way to tell when their jokes are real fears?

Nothing fool proof.

Good of you to catch it, even after the fact.  It's so hard to always be on the lookout for an underlying reason for the behavior.

(Besides, unless you planned to dance naked outside under the moon-blocked sun, I can't see how looking at another creation of God's is pagan simply because pagan's put a lot of symbolism to it - The sun sets everyday behind the earth -technically, that is an "earth eclipse of the sun", and nothing is thought of watching it).
