hi, im 24 years old and suffer from bipolar and anxiety. this year my brother came to live with me and was diagnosed with BPD. we live alone, just us two, our parents live in another country. he came to live with me to get better mental health care and go to a better school. this has been the hardest year of my life and I'm trying so hard to try and learn how to help him. he is 19 and much bigger than me and sometimes when he gets angry he does lash out at me and scare me. I just really want to help him and my family as my parents were going to get a divorce before he came to live with me. I do love him so much but I don't know how to help him without loosing myself which is happening... .I just need some advise and I'm not a mum and I don't know how to deal with him and myself and our illnesses together. PS... .please don't judge my parents, the situation is so complicated, my dad is also mentally ill

Hi scared sister

Welcome to bpdfamily

This is quite a difficult situation indeed. You are already dealing with your own issues and your brother's BPD only makes things even more difficult. Are you getting help for your bipolar disorder and anxiety?

Your brother has been diagnosed with BPD, is he getting any targeted treatment for his disorder?

he is 19 and much bigger than me and sometimes when he gets angry he does lash out at me and scare me.

Do you feel physically safe around your brother? What does he do exactly when he lashes out at you?

my dad is also mentally ill

Growing up with a disordered parent is also very challenging. Could you tell us a bit more about your dad and his mental illness?

I am glad you've taken this step and are reaching out for support here. Take care
