There was a period of peace and politeness for awhile there. I was waiting for a shoe to drop though. Our finances remain entangled, so communication via email has to occur. I figured this would end after the holidays because of the hurt associated with being apart.

Yup. He's become vindictive again and wants the house sold that we can divide the funds and be done with it because we're not on the road to reconciliation. He's talked about this before and may feel guilty in a day or too about it, but he claims this is it (he's done that before too). Job hunting continues, although I'm confident that I'll have something by summer. My two 3/4-time gigs will get us by, and the sale of the house will pay rent for some time.

Some weeks ago I told him that we were getting a dog, and he was supportive. Now he's disturbed that he wasn't consulted and says that it will damage the house and drive a wedge between us as a family. Really?

I slept fine last night and am good with all of this. Frankly it's a pain to sell a large house we've lived in for 20 years and move, but we'll survive. It will be less trouble in some ways to rent.
