After undergoing psychotherapy and learning about Borderline Personality Disorder, I realize I am an adult child of a long time abusive BPD and have served as the family scapegoat in general.  I have made great progress in learning skills to not internalize the abuse and set boundaries for myself.  Life circumstances have led me to live with my aging parents, at least for a while.  Much progress has been made by all of us in the family, including my two brothers.  But in times of stress, I still am the main object of the BPD rage for anything and everything.  Just interested in being part of an online community for others learning skills and ways to grow and heal and live life to the fullest, while being empathetic toward the BPD but setting boundaries for my own health and sanity.  Hello.

Hello Kellis and welcome!  You have certainly found a place where we are working on the same goals and even better, we understand what it is like to have a BPD/disordered family member.   Many of us can relate to being the scapegoat as well.  It is not a pleasant position in which to be to say the least.

Can you tell us a bit more about your situation?  I know you are currently living with family.  That happens though it does make things difficult.  It is good that you are in therapy and have sought additional help by posting here.  You mentioned you have developed skills to not internalize the abuse.  What are they?  Are you confident in setting boundaries?

We have a lot of resources here that can help but I am uncertain which would be of benefit at this time.  Have you seen the Library of this site?

Anyway, I am glad you joined and hope to see more of you on the boards.  Feel free to roam around, post and read as you feel the need.

Hi Kellis,

I'd like to join Harri in welcoming you here

It's not nice being the scapegoat

What kinds of BPD rage are you experiencing and how can we help?
