Hi There,

I’m new to this message board and am feeling like I’m at a really rocky place in my life.  I’m terrified actually, and don’t know where to begin or how to make the best decision for myself and my children.  We’ve been married for 7 years, and have two small children, ages 3 and 4.  I’ve known for sometime that my partner has issues and we have had what feels to me like a very tumultuous relationship (he insists he doesn’t see it this way).  My gut is telling me now that divorce is my best option for me and my kids, but I’m deeply fearful of what that path may hold.  I keep hoping he’ll come around and agree to get treatment, keep hoping things will change, that he will more consistently be the man that I have seen glimmers of throughout our years together.   He’s made so many false promises.  It’s illogical for me to think he might turn around.  Has anyone been in a similar situation or seen treatment to be successful?  I’m hardly touching the tip of the iceberg here, but I am truly overwhelmed with all my thoughts at this point.  Thank you for your time and any insight you can provide.

Are you terrified of him,  or the emotional decision to possibly leave? Do you feel safe for you and the kids?
