10/2/17 - Tom Petty tribute
«

One year ago tomorrow, 10/2/17, my friend and I pedaled our bikes along Highway 1 into Malibu, California. That was the day Tom Petty died. His music has had a presence and profound affect on me throughout my life. He was — in my opinion— extremely talented and he was prolific.
October 2 is also my youngest sister’s birthday (she died in a car crash in 1990) and my sweet Grandpap’s birthday (he passed many years ago). He was the most positive adult role model of my life.
Here’s a song in tribute for them:

Hi Harri, last year was special as my friend asked me to accompany her on the road trip to CA (driving). We stayed overnight a bit north of Malibu then rode our bikes down and back, 60 miles total to celebrate her 60th birthday (which is in August but October was when we could work out the trip).
Most years I do the same stuff I usually do... .work, make dinner for family, etc. I always set aside time to think about my sister and grandpap. I miss them and that’s a good thing... .means there was good and there was love.
I loved what I did last year with my friend. As I pedaled and took in the gorgeous coastal scenery, I thought about how much my sweet sister meant to me and how her smile could light up a room. And I remembered how my grandpap helped me learn how to drive.
I can’t bring them back, but I try to honor their lives by doing my best to get healthy and live my best life.
Tomorrow I will get up and teach my 6am indoor cycling class and do a fun tribute to Tom Petty. When I get in the pool afterward, I will do some quiet reflection on my sis and g’pap.

Hi Learning2Thrive
Wow - 60 miles at age 60!
I'm a huge fan of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and was surprised when yesterday came and went without my remembering it was the 1st anniversary of Tom's death. Thanks for posting the video, I'm listening while I post this.
Tom Petty, along with his Heartbreakers, wrote the soundtrack to my adolescence and early adulthood. Tom was always my favorite, so cute! I first saw him on my little black and white tv, the video for Refugee. I was hooked from that moment on.
I still can't believe he's gone. I was so fortunate to see him last year. I brought my two adult children who grew up listening to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Our show was postponed due to "laryngitis" and we went to karaoke that night instead. As a surprise to us all, several family members joined us and we all sang Tom Petty songs. I cried when my children sang Runnin' Down a Dream. They rocked that song and when I said so, they said, "Oh man mom, of COURSE we rocked it, we heard that song thousands of times growing up!" The show was the following week and those two nights were the most special outings I've had with them, to date.
Thanks for posting this.

Hey L2T
Great song choice, I love that one. Sounds very George Harrison. TTW has to be the best concentration of rock talent to date. What always fascinated me was the guy with probably the biggest name and certainly the biggest ego, Bob, seamed to have less of an influence than the others. I wonder how they managed all the egos ?
Bit of trivia, George Harrison was very aware of personality disorders as his wife’s parents were afflicted. He also called John Lennon out as NPD. Bob Dylan also seem extremely NPD, so maybe George knows how to handle such folk ?
Thanks for reminding us how good Tom Petty was. He's back on my playlist

, I’m so glad the song brought back good memories for you. I was not allowed to choose the music I listened to as a kid/until I left home at 18. In so many ways, I am still learning more about Tom Petty and many artists from the 60s-70s-80s. Music has added so much life and joy to my life.

, I am thankful for my Grandpap. He was a very kind, strong and gentle man who never could control his own daughter (my mother) even when she was a small child. He openly and admitted to spoiling her as a small child... .with deep regret. In the end, she was abusive to him too. And she was relentlessly vicious to my Grams (her mother) because my Gram’s tried to hold my mother accountable for her actions as she grew up.

, I am always impressed with your knowledge of celebrities with personality disorders. It’s fascinating! I have wondered about that sort of thing ... .when there are collaborations among successful celebrities and artists ... .how does that work so they can manage the relationships to produce quality work. I truly admire folks who are not easily triggered or reactive to drama.
