What kind of high school class does your child attend? are you in regular high school, do you have a 1:1 aid, are you in a special ed class…?
How hard was it to deal with school?
We aren’t sure what we are doing yet... going for IEP in a couple weeks.

Our D will be starting her junior year.  She has gone to the public high school.  Freshman year was fine - all honors courses finished with a 4.2gpa.  Last year she started to go down hill...honors courses and one AP class and one class where she actually got college credits.  She had a lot of difficulty, but mostly we thought due to social issues.  Put a 504 in place in March - but it was all on her to ask for help, which she didn't do. We requested and IEP near the end of the year.  She was tested and it turns out she has some processing issues, which she had been able to overcome on her own in the past, but this past year as the school work got more difficult with lots of steps...she was having more difficulties.  So she will have an IEP in place for this year.

Here is what I learned going through this IEP process...ask to see a draft of the IEP before you have your PPT meeting.  If you have someone familiar with the process, ask them to look over the draft with you and attend the meeting with you.   At the PPT meeting the IEP will be set - I did not realize that.   Make sure before you leave that meeting you know what each goal and objective is.

The biggest issue she is having is not addressed in the IEP!  We discussed it in the PPT, but it was not actually put down as one of the goals.  I will need to request another PPT at the very beginning of the school year in order to get that put into the IEP.

What's the PPT?

We have this in the lessons: Lesson 5
Educational Accommodations for Students with BPD

The bulk of the materials on the site was developed by members.  Do we need to add to or improve the material above?
