My son finally showed up for an intake session at a local hospital that treats dual diagnosis cases. This is another hopeful step. I feel good about it. More importantly he feels good about it. He has even agreed with me that better days are coming. So everyone please hang in there. Things can get better for all of us, sometimes when we least expect it.

So great to hear that you son is going to a program that works with dual diagnosis. I once worked in a program that focused on treating all diagnosis not just the addictions. It really helped for those who were addicted and the few families that were still involved, to have a complete picture of all the problems and not blame the addictions for everything. I am so glad to hear that your son is getting the help he needs. I respect you and your husband for standing by your son as many families do not.

Faith, I am so happy and hopeful for your son and your family as a whole.
I couldn't agree more with Zachira when she said:
Excerpt
to have a complete picture of all the problems and not blame the addictions for everything.

I have a friend who recently went through the tragic loss of her 17-year old son for exactly that - the lack of the complete picture and the blaming of addictions for everything.  Not her fault, she tried her best.  She didn't fail, she lost.
You guys on a good road right now.
Again, so happy and hopeful for you.   With affection (click to insert in post)

What a ray of light, FHL! I'm so hopeful your son's path looks something like the one for Rapt Reader, a wonderful member (and former staff) here from several years ago.

Her son was dual diagnosis also.

You have no idea how much hope that gives me. So happy for you and so happy that it shines a light at the end of the tunnel for those of us struggling and praying that our own "kids" will acknowledge the problem and accept help!
