BPD and long distance relationships

What’s the deal with people with BPD and long distance relationships, do they work?
Me and my ex lived 2 hours away and I thought that was quite long distance but he didn’t mind it. Now I’ve found out he’s dating someone from the USA- when he lives in the U.K. He met her when she was travelling here but she’s gone back home now. Apparently she’s planning to visit him again soon. It seems ridiculous to me. Do people with BPD prefer long distance relationships? Will his new relationship last because he has space?

Welcome before the worst, glad you found us.
For me, there was a period of time where we lived in different countries during our courtship. It probably helped mask a lot of problems that would have been more apparent if we had lived closer.
I also think entering into a sexual relationship very early in relationship masked also many problems.

How far away did you live? Did you not notice any problems until you moved nearer?

The distance was USA and south america. This was before email so we did a lot of old fashion letters in the mail. Letter were one sided conversation telling about what she was doing on a daily basis.
I noticed the tendency to argue, but I chose to ignore. She was/is very beautiful so I let it go many times. Also our language barrier problems helped cover up other issues.
