Hi everyone. I have a daughter in law diagnosed with BPD and I feel helpless. I want to be there for her but i'm unsure how to be.

My daughter-in-law has BPD and attempted suicide last week. She was in ICU one week and then sent to a mental hospital afterwards. While she was in ICU, my son (her husband) had thoughts of suicide because he did not know how to handle her attempted suicide. We called the suicide hotline and was able to get him some help and he is doing much better. My daughter-in-law came home from the mental hospital this week and seems better for now but I'm so worried. She starts back in therapy this next week but was already in therapy prior to the suicide attempt. Any suggestions on how to help her?

Peace3B, I have a little sister who is kind of in the same boat. I would encourage your son to get a therapist if he doesn't have one already, so he has somewhere safe to express his distress. The best way to help her is encourage her to keep utilizing therapy, but ultimately, it has to be her own efforts.
