My DIL has been diagnosed with "Emotional dysregulation because of attachment/trauma spectrum issues." She has to attend DBT (which doesn't start until August) and has been directed towards 'The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills work book"

Can anyone explain to me what exactly this diagnosis means (is it BPD?)

Hi Orangesoda

BPD is called by some Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD),  Emotional Regulation Disorder (ERD) in preference as it better describes the disorder and is more acceptable than BPD ...

Family Connections programme describe 'supporting a sufferer of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)/Emotion Dysregulation (ED) or BPD/ED traits.' So yes ED is also used instead of BPD.

For a BPD diagnosis five of the nine criteria are met.

"Emotional dysregulation because of attachment/trauma spectrum issues." - we can only go with the information provided to us, the term BPD may not have been mentioned to her. Did your DIL share her diagnosis with you directly? Guess I'm asking if she's comfortable talking to you about it.

Hang in there, it's frustrating DBT is not available immediately, my DD waited a year for DBT (UK).  Frustrated/Unfortunate (click to insert in post) My DD did have access to a Crisis Team to reach out to.
