Although we do not have an official diagnosis, my teen has been said to have “borderline features”. I am interested in learning from the experiences of others who have been in our position as parents. Our child has been through 3 years of therapy, multiple hospitalizations, IOP, longterm residential treatment, BHIS, and numerous medications. Things are not improving and seem to be getting worse. We are frustrated, worried, and mentally and emotionally exhausted.
Looking for hope.

Hi,

I wish I had answers for you - it sounds like you've tried so many things that one might normally suggest. From everything I've read, BPD is generally a co-occurring diagnosis (ie BPD & Bipolar, etc). I wonder if there is a co-occurring diagnosis and if perhaps that is playing a part in things getting worse. Mostly I wanted to reach out and just let you know that you are not alone. Sending hugs & wishing you peace.

Hi PetsRgreat
Sounds like you have been on a long journey with your teen. Yes it is exhausting, worrying and frustrating - and far beyond the usual teen difficulties.

It sounds as though you don't have an actual diagnosis as yet, but different therapies and meds have been used to target specific behaviours or moods I imagine.

What is the most difficult/worrying behaviour/mood as far as you are concerned?

There are many aspects of BPD that people here experience with their child: anger, blaming, accusing; impulsive in many areas - and the list goes on.

It is common that it is difficult to engage in positive planning with a bpd loved one.

So this is the right place to read up, get information, but most importantly to be assured you are not alone in this extraordinarily demanding life that we have.

Here people understand . . . .

Thank you for your replies.
I am reading as much as I can to better understand BPD. It seems to closely align with all of the situations we are encountering at home.
