Is it normal for a BPD to feel that other people always want attention and they feel that others will not admit their mistakes when the BPD person does just that? They only focus on the mistakes their FP makes and not the things he/she does right?

Hi TheEuropean;

Is it normal for a BPD to feel that other people always want attention and they feel that others will not admit their mistakes when the BPD person does just that? They only focus on the mistakes their FP makes and not the things he/she does right?

While I'm not sure it's an across-the-board thing (each pwBPD is a unique individual, and what you describe isn't a diagnostic criterion), it certainly wouldn't be inconsistent with the challenges that BPD brings.

It does seem that some pwBPD struggle with accurate attribution of causality. For example, I think I've read a post on here where the member and the pwBPD were arguing, the pwBPad was yelling, but then the pwBPD told the member "stop yelling!" The pwBPD can accurately identify "X is happening" but is impaired in being able to see "I am the one doing X". This may be connected to how a defining feature of BPD is a weak or absent sense of self.

When the pwBPD in your life says something like "Ugh, Jane just wants to be the center of attention, and she never admits that she's wrong", how do you respond?
