How to communicate after a contentious divorce... Following a contentious divorce and custody battle, there are often high emotion and tensions between the parents. Research shows that constant and chronic conflict between the parents negatively impacts the children. The children sense their parents anxiety in their voice, their body language and their parents behavior. Here are some suggestions from Dean Stacer on how to avoid conflict.

Whats the craziest thing yours ever did?

My ex gave himself a black eye, and texted me a picture. He then told everyone I did it, even though I now live 2,000 miles away.

I was riding as a passenger in my own car while she was driving.  She started raging and telling me to get out of the car.  I asked her to stop the car so we could talk.  She started speeding and swerving, with other cars honking at her, then crashed it into a curb.  I jumped out as she sped away.  Quite a bit of damage, could have injured herself, pedestrians, other drivers.

Events like this are why we start walking on eggshells, not wanting to trigger the same thing again.  In hindsight, events like this should be no-questions-asked relationship enders.

Beside attacking?  I once got into a argument with her in the car she started ragging, pulled over in front of some guy in his driveway and started yelling "HELP" "HELP" as if I was attacking her... .I was mortified!

Hmm... .I already used the "tried to give me herpes" one on another thread where I also mentioned her biting and scratching me on our first night together... .

Here's another that stands out.  She got black out drunk and then could not walk home.  I started carrying her the last few blocks.  She fought with me and wanted me to just leave her in a neighbor's yard to sleep and she'd walk home when she woke up!  Once home, she raged about how I was so controlling because I wouldn't leave her to sleep next to the road.  (this woman claims to be a rape survivor as well)

I was so angry at her for berating me for basically saving her from being assaulted while drunk that I took a small table and broke it on the floor.  She ran off and hid underneath something.  The next day after I told her what happened, she wrote an apology letter.

Mine got out of my car at McDonald's which is 5 or 6 miles from my house and she walked home. All because she was mad that I believe (common sense) is real... .I let her find herself home that night.

So, she does not believe in the concept of common sense?

Mine told me she liked to believe that dragons are real because it makes her happy to do so!  So, I'm seeing a connection... .

I would have to say on a different sort of note the occasional catatonic states wherein she would be nearly unresponsive for a period of time... .really scared the daylight out of me.

After one of the many times I tried to break up with my ex-BPD girlfriend, she broke into my office building on a Sunday. I was working, and she had apparently found and read my college journal. Thinking it would lure me back, she'd gone and bought a sundress and the perfume my college girlfriend had frequently worn. It actually worked. I took her back, but but it was because I was afraid of her after that experience.

Apparently I got off lucky. After we broke up for good I learned that she had tried to run over a high school boyfriend with her car.

Mine kicked me out of the house for no reason the day my Grandfather died. Lip quivering, angry. No reason. Absolutely zero reason. Told me to get out.

Also after I caught her cheating, she said I had no right to complain about what she did to me because she had been through worse... .Whaaaaaaat?

She also could not define love. One of the most awkward moments of my life was asking her how she defines it, and she couldn't answer it.

He said that his hideous behaviour was because he'd been possessed by an evil spirit for two years.

It pinned him to the bed one night for hours. He'd been paralysed by it and couldn't move. It then shot out of his mouth, bounced off of the TV and flew down the stairs.

Let's see. No particular order:

  • Found her carving the first letter into her hand with a razor, blood all over her hand and dripping form it.

  • Opened the car door and threatened to jump out (and almost doing it) when going like 40mph

  • Told someone he had to give her money, because if he didn't, she couldn't pay back what she owed me and I would kill her (she didn't even owe me anything)

  • Screamed that me and her mom are probably ___ing each other

  • Screamed so much that she couldn't speak for a couple of days, because I refused to answer a no-win question ("did you lie now or before, TELL ME"... I didn't lie at all)

  • Burned herself with cigarettes, cut herself with razors

  • Tried to hang herself during a phone call with me

  • Tried to get a guy to gang rape her (yes, seriously, not in a joking way)

  • Seduced the guy in the store below me

  • Seduced a black dude twice her age (she's 23) who can't walk, is a drug addict, has no job, no money, no friends, can't even speak our language, and has a wife and two children.

  • Called the police saying I'm raping and assaulting her

  • Attacked the nurses at a mental institution and threatening to call the police on them for attacking her

Could probably make the list many times longer.

Scratched her entire body with her fingernails while crying, telling me she wasn't pretty enough for me. This was after we had sex. It scared the crap out of me and I had to wrap my arms around her to stop her.   Red flag/bad  (click to insert in post)

Mine had replaced me but was still talking to me because I wanted her back (at the time).  To be fair, I also dated someone during this separation.  About a month into the relationship with the replacement, she told me she was convinced she was pregnant by him, and asked if I would secretly pay for an abortion, so she wouldn't have to tell him.  She started her time of the month the next day, so the point was moot, but the fact that she even got to that point in her brain was amazing to me.  She said it was because I was the only person she could trust with that information.

She also took a dozen pregnancy tests while we were together (5 years minus breakups) because if her period didn't start on the exact day, she would start to "feel weird" and say that she felt "something moving" inside her (just throwing out the window that it takes time for a baby to form in the womb).  Every single one was negative, of course.

Her negative projections would snowball.  My favorite (weird saying "favorite" but I can laugh about it now) was a day she went to the pool at her apartment, and saw two women in bikinis getting their photos taken, probably for some calendar or magazine.  She texted me at home saying how disgusting it was to see that (she would regularly narrate her life to me, so it was normal to hear complaints like this).  Then she said men who look at photos like that are pigs who just want sex.  Then she said I was just like men like that, because I had watched porn before.  THEN she asked me to promise to never ever watch porn again.  After I said that was absurd and refused, she threatened (seriously) to break up with me unless I promised never to watch porn again.  This conversation lasted the entire day, hundreds of text messages.  God, how I wish I had saved it.  Anyway, I "promised" to never watch porn again, and she settled down.

When she broke up with me (she did seven times, total) a few months later, she said "now you can go watch porn again!"  When she recycled me back in, she asked me if I had (I said yes, of course) and then yelled at me for doing so.

It's funny how she claimed to be this feminist who thought all men were sexist pigs, but with each of my replacements, she immediately slept with them, one six days after meeting him.

One of the crazier things my exBPDbf did:

Sitting at the kitchen counter one evening, working on his computer with a loaded handgun on the counter next to him, barrel pointing toward the kitchen. With his little girl in the house. He got p-ed off when I took it and put it back in the kitchen cupboard where he usually kept it. I was NOT comfortable with him around guns. My father is retired law enforcement, so guns don't make me nervous... .but the ex and guns made me very nervous.

Mine was a quiet borderline so other than some odd rages over nothing there wasn't a whole lot of outward craziness but I think the absolute craziest thing she did:  Walking out on me, some one that genuinely loved her, sharp edges and all and had supported her through thick and thin.  Friends that know both of us have told me this repeatedly.  The one gem that a female friend told me about her that keeps me going through hard moments is, "Girls like her ruin men like you for the women that are worth while."

My wife has done some doozies but the latest was her and her aunt who also has BPD returned to our residence and while I'm at work calls me to tell me she is locked out of the house with her bedridden mother inside... .so I tell her honey you have the keys and the car so what can I do... .so while she still thinks the key wont work try's to climb through a back window falls and twists her ankle... .then she goes to my son's school while he is taking driver's ed classes to get him out of school to climb through the window... .so he gets verbal with her and she gets ticked off at him and calls me again telling me I need to deal with him... .when all along she had the key to the front door in her hand... .this is the nature of this disorder and like one person said you find yourself walking on eggshells and become disconnected to your own life... .good luck folks,despr8

Same here. No major acting out. She had minor breakdowns and some gaslighting stuff going on, but the most crazy thing looking back on the 20 years we spent together was the fact that everytime she saw me genuinely happy it triggered her. It just made her skin crawl. Looking back it was obvious. It took the fun out of most of my adult life so far.

Everytime she saw me happy she would think of a reason to hate me. If I got some negative thing going on (focusing on a common enemy, problem etc), then I could keep her distracted. But the peace and calm... .that's when she showed her worst sides, and THAT is bat ___ crazy if you ask me. It has a disgusting side to it even.

She often idealized calm and peace, talking about how much wonderful sex we'd have if only we'd go somewhere on our own with much time on our hands. But when we were in those situations she hated my guts and wouldn't touch me.

She fed on confllict, even violence - something I could not (and would not) provice. And that is just crazy really, even though she believed herself to be rather normal.

Isn't the craziest... .but a crazy thing she said... .

We were watching a popular zombie show and afterward I was discussing how I might try to survive and some basic things I would want and was critiquing some of the character's survival decisions.  She says and I quote:

"I am relatively cute with a good body.  So, I've always thought I'd likely survive by hanging out with a group and giving them sex in exchange for food or protection or I'd be kidnapped and kept alive as a sex slave."

She said this calmly and in a matter of fact way.

My jaw nearly hit the floor.

I said "So your survival strategy is to become some sort of a concubine?"  She nodded, and without humor.  This was not some dark comedy or dry humor that went over my head.  She is not a funny or clever person.

That is just such a weird grimy thing to say out loud to your SO.

This points to: 1. her thought that all she really had to contribute was sex, 2. her lack of intimacy, and 3. the fantasies that she would not share with me (she said she had none, but I know that is a lie, she just could not tell me their content directly).

Sorry, figured I should get that off my chest BEFORE showering.

Interviewed with local news reporter in our home admitting to affair with married guy that had made the news because of a poor decision on his part. She initiated contact with the news channel and said the incident that happeend that got the guy on the news was indeed all the guy's fault. She did this because she was upset married guy was not going to leave his wife and kids for her Laugh out loud (click to insert in post).

There's crazier stuff as far as impulsive sex goes too but since since many of us here all too familiar with those stories i thought i would share something unique.

Ok this isn't so much crazy as douchy. I just realized today that this is what he did. In our first year together he had to go out of town for work for about 8 weeks. He made good money and was all expenses paid including food for his time. However he piddled his money away and called me on the 14 hour drive home to put $100 in his account so he could buy gas to get back. Meanwhile he was calling his affair woman at the same time (met her 2 weeks earlier) and asking her if she wanted him to come back and build a life with her or should he come home to me. She replied that she was only looking for a little fun. Ugg

Such a white trash couple. I am embarrassed that I was anywhere near this situation. I only realized the timing of the events today.

WOW, so crazy! I'm so floored by what everyone said. If it didn't happen to me, I'm not sure if I could even imagine anyone capable of doing these.

Here are mine, just the big ones

- Used a knife and completely destroyed a dress pants I had. She later justified the action because she thought it was her pants. OOkkkay. (I still kept the pants in case I need to prove her mental condition during possible custody battle).

- Threw coffee cup and computer monitors to the floor. Destroyed them. Glasses all over the floor.  I still have the pictures.

- After a fight, she took our son to another room to sleep. 1AM in the morning, went downstairs,  turned up the TV to volume 90. (Typically it's 10-15). Woke up my neighbor and my son crying on the bed in the other room alone (8 month at the time?).  Her reason? She didn't know what happened. The TV was like that when she turned it on. Liar.

- Threw rice cooker, Verizon set top box, DVD player and any other stuff she could find from the second floor to the yard downstairs... . around 1AM.  Not sure if neighbors heard them. I still have the pictures.

- 11:30pm in late December, very very cold,  after a fight, she wanted to take our 5 month old son out.   I refused, she called the cops for taking away her right as a mother.  Police left, she took our son out anyway and drove around while crazy for 1 hour... . her sister was talking to her and later told me, she asked her to please please stop driving for safety... .   I was worried sick as you can imagine.

- Wanted to jump out of our car on highway at 65mph. Door opened.

- The final fight before divorce. She called cops on me again (long story), allege I was threatening her... . I stepped in the house for at most 2 minutes at the time.  6 cops showed up, thank God I wasn't arrested. That was the final straw.

There are other minor episodes like

- 1 day cold war because I wouldn't pay for her haircut (both of us makes 6 figures)

- 1 day cold war because I missed one of her phone call

- 7 days cold war because on July 4th, I got up and I was ready to get out with her and my son for the holiday. She wouldn't have it... . why? Don't know. We were still talking fine the night before we went to sleep.

Too many others to name.

Sorry, double posted, but to add one more thing

- Slashed her wrist with a toothbrush. Managed a minor scar.

All of above happened in the last 2 years.

and I just want to thank the OP for starting this thread. It was very therapeutic for me to write them out. I never tried to put all of them together like today and now I just realized, she's bat s**t crazy, I can't believe I bear with it for this long.
