Hi,

I have just joined the support group as I have a family member, my mother, who has BPD. I have always know, even from early childhood that there was something wrong with my mother, and was always told she suffered from depression.

Which she does, suffer from depression, but its secondary to the main behavioural issues which all mirror the BPD behaviours.

I never had a normal mother, daughter relationship and as a child found it extremely difficult to relate to my mother due to here BPD.

I have just finished reading the book, The Essential Family Guide to Borderline Personality Disorder, which was a God send.

The book answered everything as far as why my mother behaved the way she did. I was recommended the book by my counsellor who I seeked out due to issues with not being able to manage or cope with my mother BPD.

Im currently attemping to put in place the techniques Ive ready with in the book, and its certainly not easy.

I look forward to learning more about the BPD via the peole on the website who also have someone in thier family with this disorder and hope to speak to you all soon.

Regards

Exy725

Hi Exy!

You're definitely in good company here. I'm glad you found some answers in that book. I'll check it out too--always looking for more insight and help. I'm also here to try and find more ways to cope. I had gotten to a sort of plateau in my coping skills and I'm experiencing a lot of exhaustion and fatigue in dealing with my uBPD mother. She was also diagnosed decades ago as having depression issues; bipolar to be exact. She gave up on therapy shortly there after. I, like you, found a lot more answers about her behavior when I looked at it through the BP lens and not the depression lens. Welcome! Smiling (click to insert in post)

Hi Exy725 and Welcome!

Pleased you joined us. I also have a BPD father who appears to have mellowed - mainly due to how I cope/respond to him and because he seems to get it a bit more.

All the best and this board is great for helping us communicate with our BPD loved ones and also for us to work through our role and how to heal from a childhood that was less than perfect.
