Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Hello All,

I wanted to share that I continue to do better largely because of the interactions on this site.  Even when I have not posted publicly, I have corresponded on PM with some.  Sharing my story with others, and hearing theirs, helps me to see my situation for what it is.  Frankly, if we were to hear our stories from another person's mouth, we would tell them how problematic and damaging and toxic their relationship was and how they should move on as fast as they can.  This is a generalization, of course, but you get my drift.  The comforting thing is that all or most of us have done more or less the same things.  We were madly in love and crushed by someone whose behaviour is hard to explain.  It almost makes no sense.  I know I still love my ex BPD, but she also was ruining my life. My good news is that each day I get better, and each day my life seems all the more filled with promise.  I will have more bad days I am sure and will come running for help.  It is nice to know you are all here.  I jst want to say thanks again, and remind those still in deep pain that it does get better, and we are here.
