Should I join the army to escape the madness?

I don't know anyone who will take me in and let me finish nursing school and things have gotten so bad around here with my BPD family that I just cannot stay here any longer. I suspect they are sabotaging me because for one they don't like that I work from home (they say I stay home too much but I don't have a car to commute and public transportation here sucks). And everytime I start a work from home job Ethernet cord gets damaged. All the other cords in the house always work fine, it's just mine that mysteriously stop working.
They complain that I am not where I should be at in life but they do everything in their power to sabotage me which prolongs my dependency on them. The only option is the military. But I have no clue if this is a good idea

If this is something that you are dedicated to outside of wanting to get away, then researching this possibility is something you might want to do.
If you are truly looking at it as an escape, the reality is it may add to any trauma you may have experienced growing up. The way the military operates is probably on par or potentially worse as far as their use (abuse) of 'power'. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really understand what it will entail and have a solid perspective regarding your motive.

Hey kharma,
Wow, that sounds tough. It's really difficult when our families don't support us or try to sabotage us. I know how rough it is living at home while trying to get through college. You want to get out of there, but money keeps you stuck in the same old same old.
While you're staying at home, can you hide your ethernet cable, like behind plants or blankets? If job opens up locally, you could ride your bike to work. Or you could try to find a couple roommates to split rent with you?
As far as joining the military, I have to agree with Want2know. I thought about enlisting too. But, coming from an abusive background, it's a really harsh environment in the military. The training is grueling, and can be pretty triggering and tough. If you see it as the only option for you, perhaps you could look into Air Force, or Air Force ROTC. It's a bit less stringent than the other branches, although it's still pretty tough.

My brother joined the military as his escape. It worked quite well for him, but it certainly isn't for everyone. (I took the community college/3 crappy jobs at once route.)
I would second the suggestion of researching your options thoroughly. Before committing to military, be sure to do some soul searching. Can you handle authority? Once you make a commitment, can you stick to it? Give it some solid thought.
