This may sound weird but it's something that's been at the back on my mind and I wonder if anyone else has similar experience.

My exBPD had back spasms - all through the night and most nights. They caused frequent jerking about. I commented on this and he said he rather enjoyed them. That they were painful but in a nice way. This left me puzzled. And sleep deprived... .

I've been reading a thread on back problems and BPD but it's discontinued so I'm posting here. Has anyone else had experience of this or similar?

Thanks.

Mine had the "jerks" when sleeping... .kinda like micro jolts when she was in sleep.  Idk, she always complained of back pains, leg pains... .but the jerking was certainly keeping me up at night.  Funny, never thought of this before.

I read the same thing... .My exBPDgf had headaches, ALL THE TIME. When things were quiet at home, she would tell me if a bad headache she had. I even referenced her to see a chiropractor. Could be all that self-loathing, anger, and tension that consumes her mind.

Mine had back spasms and severe back pain-sometimes he could only crawl on the floor for a couple days. He too would jerk awake at night from horrible nightmares. As well, he had headaches and toothaches to the point of abscess which he would get prescription painkillers for (hmmm... .never put that together before!) Also, something really weird... .he would grope me in his sleep. It was so odd and made me extremely uncomfortable as he refused to touch me when he was awake. When I would mention it, he would become very agitated that he had done anything in his sleep... .like a loss of control or something.

Oh yes... .forgot about teeth problems. Always going to dentist because of pain etc. She use to pride herself on rejecting pain reliever... .but the more I think about it, it would make sense that she was using that as an excuse. Wow. Just a light bulb moment. Even her ex said she had a pain killer problem ... .bit I never believed him since she always played the victimized wife role.

Yes. Jerky unrestful sleep. Also on one occasion in his sleep he whispered "stupid ___" in my ear in a very clear awake voice and pushed me really hard to the other side of the bed. This happened before the devalue started and I put it down to a weird dream.

I wonder if the jerking spasms are a neurological link to BPD?

My ex was taking medication for restless leg syndrome,  still twitched and jerked all night (arms and legs) so much so that I couldn't sleep. I have to admit the abuse was so bad at the time I wondered if he was pretending to do it just to keep me awake (sleep deprivation) or if it was some form of epilepsy.  A sleep study in the local hospital revealed nothing! I was so irritated by his behaviour (during the day and at night) by then I was wondering what I had ever seen in him,  had I imagined the honeymoon stage? There was none of the twitching then! Still don't know... .Very interesting to hear others describe similar experiences

Mine jerked at night too. Also had a slight case of Tourette's where she did this kind of blinking thing with her eyes. I'm sure the brain of someone with BPD is so tired that it triggers the body into spasms just to rest itself for a second.

Also, my ex's twitching symptoms got worse when she was doing worse (off her meds, dysregulated, etc).

Mine talked in his sleep ever since he was a kid. His Dad said he said horrible things... .He did say horrible things "in his sleep" to me! Sometimes I thought he was really awake saying them! He also jerked his legs allot... .I swore it was on purpose to kick me. He said I snore and he would be really angry and wake me up all the time. I do admit I snore, but he was so mean about it. He would go sleep in the other room too. I do understand, but threatening to kill me or calling me names "in his sleep" was uncalled for. I read they like to keep you awake and exhausted so you are weak.  Could be!

Mine does have jerking motions during sleep but I think that's somewhat common.  I don't remember unusual complaints of pain in her legs or back.

Wow I can't belive this! My ex would tell me she would sleep and get woken up by her body twitching. She said she had this every night and it broke her sleep.

We should do a poll on this question! How do you do a poll?

Mine had back pain and migraines. She was always sick or ailing right around an important (to me) event. This is not uncommon in BPD land... .

I don't know how you do a poll KC sunshine. But it struck me as strange - I'm in my sixties and I've never known anyone twitch or jerk in their sleep like ex BPD so I wondered if it's linked and if anyone else has experienced it.
