Today is a hopeful day. Our DS24XBPD who has been in a psychiatric ward following a drug overdose - suicide attempt is finally detoxed and on his way to an excellent rehab facility in Palm Springs, California (the opposite side of the country from us) where he will stay for 30 days. Already he is a different person (in a good way) than he was when he was using. He seems motivated to change now. There may still be bumps ahead but for the first time in a long time I am no longer planning his funeral because I can see he has a future. Thank you all for being there for me. I appreciate this group so much
Hugs

Great news.  The step towards recovery, when made by the patient, is huge.

On a side note, I am also thankful that you and yours will get a 30 day break.  It's ok to be relieved by that.  I often felt guilt when my DD was away in treatment or the psych ward, and that I was relieved that someone else was handling it/her.

Enjoy the relative normalcy.

You're not alone.

This is truly awesome news Faith.   Onwards go your brave son.

How's the self care going? What are you up to?

We are walking with you, as jyw says, you are not alone

Faith,
What encouraging news here. My DS got himself addicted to prescribed Xanax years ago and the anxiety loop that it created was unreal. We’ve learned so much about that drug (I hate it).
When it was finally out of his system the real son emerged and it was a joy to see it.  We’ve put him on a few planes to rehab. Tough stuff, but we did ok.
Thinking of you today and celebrating the positive steps forward with you!

I'm so glad for you and your son, Faith. I hope that he is now in a place where he can hear what he needs to receive for his recovery. It is so good that he is motivated to participate in treatment.
You and your husband deserve a week-long break! Now that's some self-care at its finest!

That is really great news Faith.  What a great step for all of you.

As I was reading your post I could hear a voice in my head saying "go west young man..."

Enjoy your anniversary vacation with your hubby!

That's some self-care, for sure!

Enjoy the heck out of it.  You both have earned it.

Faith, I'm glad you can breathe now, knowing that he is safe and being cared for. My daughter is coming home after a month in drug rehab. I am cautiously optimistic about the future   I'll keep you updated. Best wishes to you and your son.

Forget the celebration. He did what I feared. He left the airport and went back to his apartment. At this point I feel like it is time to admit there is no hope for my so called son. He is now dead to me.
