dBPDh is a bit of a news junkie, and I've noticed that he gets very excited when he reads stories about natural disasters, murders, other violent crimes or people getting scammed - just in general tragic and horrible things happening to other people. His excitement is notable, since normally he has a more eeyore personality (these days, at least). I thought it might be the BPD, like he is happy and temporarily relieved when he sees people who are worse off than he feels. Anyone else's pwBPD do this? Just curious.

Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it's less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you've lost, or you can accept that and try to put together something that's good.

It's always hard to tell whether some specific behavior is related to BPD or not. I can't say I've heard this one before though, so it may just be him.
Have you had a chance to read the Lessons? There is some good information in there about understanding BPD behaviors.

As someone without BPD, I'm also riveted by the exact same material and find it to be creative inspiration. Actually, when I get depressed, discussing the details of an engaging disaster story can bring (temporary) relief.
My dBPDbf also has an interest in local crime - and I've used the subject to break him out of silent spells - but I think it's just rubber-necking.
On the other hand, disasters make for great creative inspiration, as well as philosophical thought, and connections between mental illness and creativity or intelligence have been made, so there's that.

Adrenaline boost perhaps? The theory with 'adrenaline junkies' is that it gives a temporary 'high' or a slight 'buzz'. Could be a form of self-medicating for a pwBPD?
