Hello!  I'm M, and I'm 36 years old and I'm sure there have been people on here with my situation.

When I was a child my Dad had BPD, as well as PTSD.  Back then where I was at in the world BPD didn't seem to be a thing quite yet (that was the 80s, not too long ago though!).  Anyway, I myself was diagnosed with BPD and two other mental illnesses back in 2004.  I worked my butt off to get a lot better, and I'm in a really great place today.

I've been posting on a group on facebook with people who have BPD and have been trying to help out there and I wanted to see what was out there in the message boards, and I found this place for friends/family of people who have BPD.  I've been in BOTH situations and even though it took a long time, I've come out alive and well (hasn't been easy) so I wanted to join here, if you all will have me.

Anyway, I live in North Carolina now.  I live with my best friend D.  A few years ago, he and I were dating and I was still going through my very crazy (a term of affection for me) days and he (VERY UNDERSTANDABLY) broke up with me and moved back home to NC.  That is what I needed to see myself for what I was and what I was doing and it really helped me out.  It was the best thing that he could have done for me.  Almost two years later I moved here as his friend (long story there) and he is my best friend and roommate.

Oops, I've said a lot of info here.  I ramble.  Anyway, hello!

Hi spidermiss2426,

Welcome

We are a board for those in a relationship with someone who has BPD. If you are looking to work on your FOO (family of origin)  issues with your Dad then you've landed in the right place.

We are a community of people, many of whom have been hurt by a person with a BPD diagnosis or a Parent looking for help for a child diagnosed with BPD. So, in addition to people like yourself that had a parent or family member with BPD, you may encounter posts here that could be triggering for you due to the raw emotions that the member is feeling towards those with BPD.

If you are up for working on these things, then please go out and read on the [L5]  Coping and Healing from a BPD Parent, Sibling, or Inlaw Board and see if it seems like a good fit for you.

Yours,

mamachelle

Oh no. Smiling (click to insert in post)  Don't misunderstand me.  After working my butt off in therapy and psychiatry for ten years, I don't really have any triggers anymore.  Trust me, I am in a VERY good place!  And twenty years after Dad got better, with me moving out and after the death of my Mom, Dad and I worked out most of our relationship issues too.

Long story short, I know I can provide insight, like I said I've been in both places, and I'm very self analyzing. Smiling (click to insert in post)
