I've noticed that "Pink" and Katy Perry both have songs that sound a whole lot like BPD traits:
Pink,
Just Give Me a Reason
"Right from the start
You were a thief, you stole my heart
And I your willing victim
I let you see the parts of me, that weren't all that pretty
And with every touch you fixed them
Now you've been talking in your sleep oh oh
Things you never say to me oh oh
Tell me that you've had enough
Of our love, our love
Just give me a reason, just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again
It's in the stars, it's been written in the scars on our hearts
We're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again
I'm sorry I don't understand
Where all of this is coming from
I thought that we were fine (Oh we had everything)
Your head is running wild again
My dear we still have everythin'
And it's all in your mind (Yeah but this is happenin'
You've been havin' real bad dreams oh oh
You used to lie so close to me oh oh
There's nothing more than empty sheets between our love, our love
Oh our love, our love... . "
And Katy Perry... . I think she's been with a few BPD people from her lyrics!
Hot N Cold
:
"You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
You don't really want to stay,
But you don't really want to go
You're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
Someone call the doctor
Got a case of a love bi-polar
Stuck on a roller coaster
Can't get off this ride"
And then
Wide Awake
:
"Yeah, I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I'm wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong?
(I'm wide awake)
And now it's clear to me
That everything you see
Ain't always what it seems
I'm wide awake
Yeah, I was dreaming for so long
I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn't dive in
Wouldn't bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete
Falling from cloud nine
Crashing from the high
I'm letting go tonight
Yeah I'm falling from cloud nine
Thunder rumbling
Castles crumbling (I'm wide awake)
I am trying to hold on (I'm wide awake)
God knows that I tried
Seeing the bright side (I'm wide awake)
I'm not blind anymore"
And then there's
ROAR
:
"I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything
You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now
I've got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar"
See... . even celebs with a bootyload of money, beauty and/or fame deal with crazies. Or they are the crazies, who knows. Either way, we are SO not alone in dealing with this people... . they are immortalized in pop culture forever... .

I readt his thread a few weeks ago. Then I heard this song last night. I have always loved this song, but I have not heard it in years. This song is about basic human nature but it has a whole new meaning after being involved with a pwBPD.
Billy Joel - She's Always a Woman To Me
She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me
She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me
CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind
And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--
Bridge
CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind
She is frequently kind
And she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--

mywifecrazy,
I agree, it stopped me in my tracks. The funny thing is my uBPDgf and I were making dinner when it came on and she turned it up and says "Oh my God! I love this song". All i could say was "ya, me too".

Well at least you're learning about BPD so there's a chance your relationship will survive?
I didn't know anything about BPD until after My wife was caught in an affair. One of many it turns out. A very ugly divorce ensued and now she is so out of control that I'm raising my (2) sons myself.
If I had known about BPD things might have been different. The girl I thought I knew never existed. Reminds me of a Led Zeppelin lyric from "Going To California":
"Ride a White Mare on the Footsteps of Dawn, Trying to find a Women Who's never, never, never been Born".

I have been listening to a lot of my old favorites lately and Led Zeppelin has always been toward the top of my list. Funny that you should mention "Going to California" as I heard it over the weekend... . it hit home more than it ever.

I got chills when I read your post. When I heard that line in the song I wanted to cry... . I guess my current situation has me looking for meaning and validation in music more.
I love my uBPDgf dearly, but I often find myself dreaming about raising my boys (2 also) on my own. I know it would be difficult but at least I would not have to worry about BPD BS. However, she would never relinquish control of our children to me, not in a million years. The best I could even hope for is 50/50.

Alright P' Daddy,
Now you just pissed me off!
But first let me say how grateful I am that you revived this link. I would have never found it with out you bringing it up again!
Music has always been so healing to me. I have had a hard emotional day. I started to rest by intellectual pursuits at a time when I know that was not the answer. I followed this thread.
What a wonderful evening rediscovering songs I thought I knew and discovering new material that I will add to my collection.
However (feigning anger)
I spent the evening with this tread to see if anyone brought up a so obvious winner.
A song we loved at first, but then grew tired of (in itself typical)
Gotye-Somebody That I Used To Know
It is the perfect, classic example…
Until your post!
I remember getting getting my first paper route at age 11. I joined one of those "Colombia House" get x albums for just a penny. After the onslaught of the first x albums, I received the first one I paid for myself. It was this very album. I can remember pulling out the album sleeve and saying to myself, "this is the ultimate cool!" I learned every note of that album. My love of music grew exponentially. Today, I have hundreds of thousands of songs from Bach to Eminem (and soon thanks to this thread "Buckcherry" on my computer at my beck 'n call. However, I still have that exact (almost 40 year-old) album on my shelf. I identified with this song before, but never knew it like I do now after your post. [I wonder if this may be a source of BJ's struggles today]
You win!
This is the quintessential song.
But I hope this thread stays alive. Sharing music that heals can be as important as sharing thoughts that heal

"Angel Face" by Tony Banks of Genesis, sung by Fish
"Long Cold Day" sung by Fish
"One" sung by Bono (U2)
These songs won't make you sad. They'll help you vent.

WOW another Zeppelin Song!
Dazed and Confused
Been Dazed and Confused for so long it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Lots of people talkin', few of them know
Soul of a woman was created below.
You hurt and abuse tellin' all of your lies.
Run around sweet baby, Lord how you hypnotize.
Sweet little baby, I don't know where you've been.
Gonna love you baby, here I come again.
Every day I work so hard, bringin' home my hard earned pay
Try to love you baby, but you push me away.
Don't know where you're goin', only know just where you've been,
Sweet little baby, I want you again.
Been dazed and confused for so long, it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Take it easy baby, let them say what they will.
Will your tongue wag so much when I send you the bill?

Pecator,
I am with you in the connection to emotional music. This type of song never hit me like they have lately. I have always loved music as well and have a very vast collection from classical to bluegrass, from big band to emerging 80's punk, and everything in between. Before my relationship with my pwBPD I always connected to the energy of the music and the place it took me. I have recently found myself scrutinizing lyrics in an attempt to find solace in the shared experiences and trauma. This has allowed me an additional outlet for my frustration in my r/s with my uBPDgf and I can take my enjoyment of music to another level. I am an engineer by trade (not conducive to BPD r/s btw) and these outlets are much needed by the end of a long day, and allow my uBPDgf and I to connect on neutral ground.
I hope I didn't ruin this song for you by pointing out my perception of BPD behavior in Bill's lyrics. I have always loved this song, now I feel like I owe Bill a beer.
mywifecrazy,
Any song by Zeppelin is welcome on my playlist at any time of day. Again, I have always connected to ":)azed and Confused" and never understood why until my current r/s.
KEEP 'EM COMIN!

Heartbreaker-Led Zeppelin
Well, it's been ten years and maybe more since I first set eyes on you.
The best years of my life gone by, here I am alone and blue.
Some people cry and some people die by the wicked ways of love;
But I'll just keep on rollin' along with the grace from the Lord above.
People talkin' all around 'bout the way you left me flat,
I don't care what the people say, I know where their jive is at.
One thing I do have on my mind, if you can clarify please do,
It's the way you call me another guy's name when I try to make love to you.
I try to make love but it ain't no use.
Give it to me
Give it
Work so hard I couldn't unwind, get some money saved;
Abuse my love a thousand times, however hard I tried.
Heartbreaker, your time has come, can't take your evil way;
Go away, Heartbreaker.
Heartbreaker!
Heartbreaker!
Heart!

"Cold" and "She's So Mean" by Matchbox 20:
"Cold"
I will do without
The spaces in between
If you can tell me now
What it means to be
You have been found out
I have been deceived
By the one that I need
Tell me why you gotta be so cold
How'd you get so high
Why you're keeping me low
You dont know, you don't know
Tell me how we're gonna make it last
You're ready to fly
I'm ready to crash
Don't go, don't go, no
You will go without
A better part of me
There will be no doubt
What this all could mean
You will be found out
I can not believe
In the one that I need
Tell me why you gotta be so cold
How'd you get so high
Why you're keeping me low
You don't know, you don't know, don't know
And tell me how we're gonna make it last
You're ready to fly
I'm ready to crash
Don't go, don't go away
"She's So Mean"
I kn-kn-know a girl, she gets what she wants all the time
'Cause she's fine
But for an angel, she's a hot hot mess
Make you so blind
But you don't mind
'Cause she's an uptown, get-around, anything-goes girl, girl
She's a hardcore, candy-store, gimme-some-more girl, girl
She'll make you take her to the club, but then she leaves with her friends
She likes to stay late at the party, 'cause the fun never ends
And all her clothes are on the floor and all your records are scratched
She's like a one-way ticket 'cause you can't come back!
Saying yeah... . you want her, but she's so mean
(You’ll never let her go. Why don’t you let her go?)
Yeah... . you want her, but she's so mean
(You’ll never let her go. Why don’t you let her go?)
You kn-kn-know that if you don’t shut your mouth, she’ll freak out
You better get your hit together, ‘cause she’s bringing you down now
Yeah boy you better, you better
'Cause she's an uptown, get-around, anything-goes girl, girl
She's a hardcore, candy-store, gimme-some-more girl, girl
She’s got her wicked sense of humor, can’t believe what she says
She drinks Bacardi in the morning ‘til it goes to her head
And all you want is just to hold her, but she don’t go for that
She has a hard time coming when she can’t hit back
Saying yeah... . you want her, but she's so mean
(You’ll never let her go. Why don’t you let her go?)
Yeah... . you want her, but she's so mean
(You’ll never let her go. Why don’t you let her go?)
Every now and then, she makes you just a little bit crazy
She’ll turn a knife into your back and then she’s calling you baby, crazy
She'll make you take her to the club, but then she leaves with her friends
She likes to stay late at the party, 'cause the fun never ends
And all her clothes are on the floor and all your records are scratched
She's like a one-way ticket 'cause you can't come back!
Saying yeah... . you want her, but she's so mean
(You’ll never let her go. Why don’t you let her go?)
Yeah... . you want her, but she's so mean
(You’ll never let her go. Why don’t you let her go?)

A couple great ones:
Replace you (acoustic)
by silverstein and
My Herioine (acoustic)
by silverstein.
replace you talks about someone destroying his life. best part is when he talks about repeating the cycle, the same mistakes we've always made
my heroine is comparing her to a drug.
I happen to like the acoustic versions.

New one I just heard from a guy named
Parker Millsap -- "The Villain."
Excerpt
I don't wanna be
The villain in your dreams any more
I don't wanna be
The reason you lose sleep anymore
I don't wanna be the one
That locks the door and loads the gun
and pulls the trigger 'til you wake up sore
I don't wanna be
The villain in your dreams anymore
I don't wanna be
the one that lets you down anymore
I don't wanna be
The gravity the ground anymore
I don't wanna be the man
that lifts you up and helps you stand
then holds you high and drops you to the floor
I don't wanna be
The one that lets you down anymore
I don't wanna be
The one that holds you back anymore
I don't wanna be
The missing piece of track anymore
I don't wanna be the guy
that straps you to a railroad tie
and listens for the rumble and the roar
I don't wanna be
the villain in your dreams anymore
Interesting how it can be interpreted from both sides, too. Could be an abuser's prayer for redemption or a partner/friend/family member's response to being repeatedly painted black. Either way,
worth a listen
.

The new song by John Legend hit home for me:
All of me:
What would I do without your smart mouth
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you're crying you're beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I'm around through every mood
You're my downfall, you're my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we're both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it's hard
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you
I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh
I love this song. My ex once texted me the whole song. I suspect it was how we both felt about one another. I know its how i feel about him.

I bawled like a baby the first time I heard the song all of me. It certainly hits home for both me and my husband. This isn't his sort of song but it touched his heart as well as mine.

Taylor Swift - Blank Space
I think many on here can relate to this song.
Nice to meet you
Where you been?
I could show you incredible things
Magic, madness, heaven, sin
Saw you there and I thought oh my god
Look at that face, you look like my next mistake
Love's a game, wanna play
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain't it funny rumors fly
And I know you heard about me
So hey, let's be friends
I'm dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
I could make the bad guys good for a weekend
[Pre-Chorus]
So it's gonna be forever
Or it's gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it's over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane
Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game
[Chorus]
Cause we're young and we're reckless
We'll take this way too far
It'll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane
But I got a blank space baby
And I'll write your name
Cherry lips
Crystal skies
I could show you incredible things
Stolen kisses, pretty lies
You're the king baby I'm your queen
Find out what you want
Be that girl for a month
But the worst is yet to come
Oh no
Screaming, crying, perfect storms
I could make all the tables turn
Rose garden filled with thorns
Keep you second guessing like oh my god
Who is she? I get drunk on jealousy
But you'll come back each time you leave
Cause darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream
