I used to listen to this song quite frequently when I broke up and then went NC with my ex back in March 2013. It really helped me out when I was feeling anxious/sad.

":)on't paint me black when I used to be golden."

I like this song. I like the place it takes me to in my mind. Thank you for leading me to it.

Thanks for sharing, music is always good for the sole. Here is one that I listen to every time I find myself feeling sympathy or empathy toward my BPD ex girlfriend.

Now your just somebody that I used to know, gives me pleasure just singing it!

Not exactly an upbeat one but I think we can all relate.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cCzHvOelKc

Saw this live about a month after she left, was pretty moving.

Hah. Funny thing about that song is that my ex and I always used to hear it playing on the radio in car when we were together. Stations were playing it all the time during the summer.

I've toyed with the idea that if she was sane the words in this song would be her conceding, but she's not sane. She's insane and the words are Joanna Newsom's while any concession remains a fantasy.

Check this song out- ( idk how to do the links like ya'll do).

BEHIND BLUE EYES ( I don't like The Who, try Limp Biskits version... .At least read the words). My ex has blue eyes and is oh so dark-

My ex said in the beginning of our relationship, that everything about us feels "warm, round and golden" for her.

":)on't paint me black when I used to be golden" nails it perfectly.

Here's another one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Or0kDo_SM

Elton John and Leon Russell - If It Wasn't For Bad

I knew from the first night I met you

That something just wasn't quite right

You looked like an innocent stranger

But something was just out of sight

How could I know that you'd accuse me

To fill out some plan of your own

If I could have known you'd abuse me

And leave me here hurt and alone

If it wasn't for you I'd be happy

If it wasn't for lies you'd be true

I know that you could be just like you should

If it wasn't for bad you'd be good

I only saw what I wanted to see

You were a dream in my mind

I'll never know how you never could be

It didn't take long for me to find

I guess that it's my fault for seeing

Only what I wanted to see

I couldn't know you were being

A player just acting for me

Great video to a pretty great song about emotional loss.  Might as well have been me they filmed, I think for a while there I thought I could just outrun it all.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e17iXDf0NGE

This sums it up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkfkJCyqCBc&spfreload=10

Billy Joel - Always a woman to me.

She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes

She can ruin your faith with her casual lies

And she only reveals what she wants you to see

She hides like a child, but she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you

She can ask for the truth, but she'll never believe

And she'll take what you give her as long it's free

Yeah, She steals like a thief, but she's always a woman to me

CHORUS

Ohhh... .she takes care of herself

She can wait if she wants, she's ahead of her time

Ohhh... .and she never gives out

And she never gives in, she just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden

Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding

But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be

Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me

CHORUS

She's frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel

She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool

She can't be convicted, she's earned her degree

And the most she will do is throw shadows at you,

But she's always a woman to me
