I'm a child of a BPD/NPD mother, an alcoholic father who passed away 16 years ago. I accepted the responsbility of rescuer/fixer which allowed my father and siblings to escape the craziness. I've been able to name the abuse but still retreat to those destructive behaviors I learned tying to be the savior figure in the family.

Hello Furaha,

If you've labeled yourself as the rescuer/fixer, yet were still subject to your mother's abuses, that must have felt horrible. It sounds like at the time, you may have been acting to rescue others, yet no one was there to rescue you, and your father and siblings were perhaps passive accomplices to this.

How are you doing now, and what kind of contact do you have with your mother? Could you offer what kind of destructive behaviors in general that you learned growing up with such an unhealthy dynamic?
