My ex and I have been NC for about a week, but she keeps sending me these strange blank texts, sometimes several times a day. I asked her about it and she said they must have been a mistake. Can you mistakenly send texts? Strange. Have any of you experienced anything similar? If by any chance it's not a mistake, what is she doing by sending them?

Can I point out the obvious:

The two of you are clearly "in contact".

Blocking the senders number may solve that problem.

Sorry to be dense-- contact and control thing? As in knowing that seeing those blank texts will confuse me and wonder what is happening?

again, sorry to be dense, but would you guess that she is doing this intentionally? Like emotional manipulation on a super intentional level? Or could it be accidental (but unconsciously doing it). Have you all heard of this thing before?

Well, we don't know for sure... .but look at it like this ... my expwBPD  (who was living with her new supply), would physically do "drive-byes" where I lived.  This is a common behavior and mentioned here all the time... at one point, I was out putting my MTB on the top of my car (with my shades on), and I watched her do 4 drives-byes and then pull in behind my car.

Don't you think that a personality disordered person could be capable of doing "tech drive-byes", like sending you blank texts. It certainly accomplishes the same thing. "Notice me!"

I can tell you one thing... .even though my ex wanted nothing to do with me she certainly accomplished her mission... .she was on my mind constantly. Now,remember, we are talking about people with personality disorders here, not normal individuals.

I couldn't block all the roads... .but you can certainly block that phone number if you are serious about NC. Problem solved.

They always do this sort of thing.

mine won't talk to me at the moment for some unknown reason to man nor beast, but I got three hang up calls at work today on my direct line, it's her no question.

Try not to overthink it

BPD is an attachment disorder by clinical definition. A pwBPD cannot stand losing an attachment, you. Fear of abandonment comes into play regarding said loss. You are NOT receiving several text from her a day by accident; that is her way of maintaining the attachment to you. It is a need of hers to maintain said attachment, and that is exactly what she is doing. Because of their self centeredness and lack of empathy towards others (remember that we are talking about an individual with an arrested/infantile emotional maturity) it probably isn't maliciously designed to hurt you. If it is triggering you, you might consider blocking her on all communication avenues.

That's a good way of thinking about it Apollotech, that the texts are serving a function for her ... .perhaps like looking at a picture. So I'm gonna try not to think or worry about them... .
