Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Thanks to the posters on this thread.

I left the family home three weeks ago as I could no longer handle my partner's apparent BPD tendencies (undiagnosed) . We've been together almost three years and I'm in quandry as to what i should do next. We have both agreed to counselling and I'm hoping we can find a way. I just have these flashbacks of her paranoia and irrational behaviour which prompts me to keep my distance. She wants me to come home but I fear we will fall out again.

First and foremost, how do i manage to inform my partner she could be suffering from BPD? I realise i may have issues too... .but my partner's insecurity and anxiety is killing our relationship and for me that is priority moving forward... .

No one wants to be told they have mental illness. So don't even try.
