I am so angry with uBPDm right now. I got new glasses, and I am having issues seeing my laptop, can't focus, and I've worn glasses for 17 years and never had any issues adjusting to new glasses. I can't call the doctor's office on my own due to my speech impediment. so she called for me. The girl said to wait 2 weeks (!) to see if it gets better. I can barely stand using my laptop which is my main outlet to the world. My dad is telling me to stop wearing them, but my mom is telling me to suffer through it.

Of course, if it was her, she'd be back in the office demanding they double check the lenses, etc, etc. Like my dad says, she'd never do what she is demanding me do. I want to keep the peace between my parents so I am not sure what to do.

I just don't get why she's like this all of the time. She is so trusting of authoritarian advice, except when it comes to herself, and lectures me when I don't. I just wanted to scream at her last night!

Hi ViaCrusis1689

Sorry to hear these new glasses are causing you problems. Since your laptop is your main way of communicating, I can definitely understand why this situation frustrates you so.

Your mother's reaction only makes you upset even more. Is it perhaps an option for you to ask your dad to call the doctor's office again? Also stressing how important it is for you to be able to use your laptop and that the new glasses are making this hard. Perhaps the outcome will be different then.

Thanks... .I may do that. I did an experiment and put my old ones on for less than a minute and I was able to focus immediately, so I really think there is an issue. Plus I can pinpoint a moment during the exam where a new girl who wasn't used to my disability was trying to block one of my eyes and I was moving, thus I really doubt the reading was truly accurate. And the doctor initially said he wasn't going to change my prescription but then he did.  The entire situation is messed up.

V,

Just fyi, I got new glasses a few years ago and tried to drive the next day, just knew something wasn't right. After the weekend, I did a walk-in and asked for them to be checked. New glasses never take more than a few hours for adjustment!

Well, they checked the lenses against the Rx... .and they had the myopia correction correct but had put the astigmatism correction in the wrong sides... .left astigmatism correction in right lens, and vice versa.

So... .they do screw up sometimes.

Interesting about the astigmatism issue you had; my doctor said mine went away in the eye I had it in. Now I am wondering if it really did go away as that is the eye I am having an issue.

Can you email the eye doctor's office?   Rather than using your parents as the "middle men".

Tried finding an email address... .the practice doesn't even have a website so I am out of luck on that front. Thanks for the suggestion  Smiling (click to insert in post).

Update: I stuck it out for about 2 days and then gave up as I couldn't stand not being able to read on my computer or do much of anything else online. My eyes are much happier now Smiling (click to insert in post). I am definitely going back to the doctor and see what the heck is wrong. I also chose the wrong type of lens material based on incorrect  information I was given, so that needs to be rectified as well. uBPDm didn't argue much when I told her, which shocked me.

Got a total recheck... .He found astigmatism in both eyes, when he thought I didn't have it in either (he thought it went away in the right eye), and he reduced the power in one eye, the one I had issues with. The thinner lenses would have been the same price or the thinnest for $25 more, so I went for the thinnest. At least the doctor was super nice about it. Just so weird that he missed the astigmatism the first time around... .

Reinforced the idea I need to trust my gut when it is telling me something is wrong. Hopefully the new lenses will solve the problem. I am still getting headaches which I hope is just from the two days of wearing the wrong prescription and the eye strain that it caused.
