Hi,

I have been searching about verbal abuse (as my sister is verbally abusive particularly with her oldest child). Recently I came across BPD and read about it. According to the symptoms layed out on MayoClinic she has all of them! It also gave a list of most likely paired with personality disorders. She is definitely NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder). I didn't have to read the symptoms to know this but again - every symptom is her!

At this point I'm not sure what to do. If anything this realization has brought me comfort and understanding for our childhood growing up with her. However, I am concerned for her and her children (particularly the oldest who she is slandering with "you're bad, stupid and the worse at... .". I do not think she is aware of BPD and since I'm older she sees me as a threat - or inferior to her. Any advice out there? I've already spoken with our mom and she's also wantig to help but we don't know how or what to do. I would love some advice and serious wisdom.

Thanks

Hi Sister333

Dealing with a BPD sibling can be quite challenging. You say that learning about personality disorders has brought you comfort and understanding for your childhood growing up with your sister. Was she already verbally abusive back then? What would you say were her behaviors that you found most difficult or concerning growing up?

In your post you say you don't believe your sister is aware of BPD. Do you mean she isn't aware of the existence of this disorder in general or more specifically that she doesn't acknowledge that there is something wrong with her own behavior?

Being verbally abused is very unpleasant and it's very sad that her children, particularly her oldest, are subjected to this abuse. Do you feel like her children are safe with her? Is their father also there or is your sister the only parent there?
