Can anyone reccomend books to read?
«

I'm looking for a few books to read and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
To be honest, I think reading these forums have been more help understanding BPD than anything I could read in a kindle book, however what I'm looking at now is a book on overcoming and recovering from BPD abandonment.
There was a book mentioned a few times here but I never bothered to write the name down. If anyone has any suggestions of a good read or knows the book I'm talking about please let me know!
Cheers,

Actually I was thinking of starting a book thread so maybe we can do that now
I'm not sure which book you're referring to though. Perhaps The Human Magnet Syndrome by Ross Rosenberg? It's about codependency, why we love people who hurt us. Haven't read it yet but am looking to order it.

Hi Ahoy,
I really liked Susan Anderson's book, which helped me recover from the feeling of abandonment after my breakup with pwBPD. The link is here:
The Journey from Abandonment to Healing
I also highly recommend
I Don't Have To Make Everything All Better
, which is good for all relationships, BPD or not.
You might want to peruse the
book section
to see many more member recommendations.

I'm looking for books on learning how to love yourself. Perhaps this is included in books on codependency (haven't ordered those yet) but perhaps separate books exist as well? I am looking for as practical as possible with active verbs. Any recommendations?

Cool! Had this on my list anyway but didn't know for sure if it would be about how to love yourself. Will definitely order it now!

i would tread lightly with ross rosenberg. he has some pretty controversial ideas about codependency, an already controversial subject. namely, that it is a disorder whether the DSM wants to recognize it or not
the journey from abandonment to healing has a ton to offer when it comes to practicing self love.
this book probably doesnt have anything to do with codependency, but a lot about building self esteem, recognizing, and eliminating twisted thinking:

Its funny because ALL OF MY LEARNING about BPD started with Ross Rosenberg and his youtube videos. Especially the three part series on a borderline relationship. I remember watching it, cooking breakfast hearing for the first time how a borderline relationship isn't sustainable and I just about keeled over in shock. He really opened my eyes to the situation we are all currently in.
That being said, I agree with your assessment. A lot of his concepts, like pathological loneliness are purely his take on things. A lot of what he has leant has come from his own understanding as being a self-admitted co-dependent. Nothing at all wrong for that, he has just formalised concepts he has personally felt and overcome.
I truly believe that nothing, nothing at all comes close this forum in terms of its raw power to impart knowledge about BPD relationships.

Agreed. I believe this is more for codependency. When I got the book I didn't know that. But it has brought some of my issues to light. I believe I am and it is helping me in that perspective !

I've read:
"I hate you don't leave me" and "Walking on Eggshells" so far.
I just purchased Dr. John Gunderson's book on BPD and Mindfulness for Beginners.
