I know Alanon and other organizations have meetings, many that are telephone meetings. Does anything similar exist for partners / families of BPD people?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!

Hi casey1234,
Did you check meetup.com? I did a Google search "BPD site:meetup.com" and found some but not many groups.

Hi casey1234,
I'm not sure where you are located, but in the States, the organization NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) might be able to give you some information about local resources:

Hi Casey,
I have found 12 step groups to be very helpful when dealing with BPD family and romantic relationships. The ones that help with co-dependency are the ones that I find helpful (CoDA) and since I have a BPD mother, ACA, adult children of alcoholics.
A marriage counselor recommended these groups to me. I was surprised as alcohol or any other substance abuse is not an issue for me. But what I discovered is a lot of similarities in the behavior patterns between BPD/non and families with BPD parents. Sometimes BPD and substance abuse occurs together as well.
What is helpful about 12 step groups is the process of self growth and looking at our contribution to the dysfunction, especially co-dependent and enabling behaviors. These are the problem whether a spouse has BPD and or any addictions. Since the goal is to deal with the relationship dynamics- and they are so similar, the difference between an alcoholic spouse and one with BPD is to me, less important. It's me I need to be looking at.
