So my dd's only real symptom is suicidality. She was given meds and told to come back in 3 months. She has had 1 counseling session. She goes to school, track, work but every night like clockwork between 8:30 and 9:00 she wants to self-harm or kill herself and obviously didassociates. Her whole demeanor changes. I'm so tired of me stopping ger every might for 2 hours. Is anybody else's kid somilar? It seems like such a pattern. The psychiatrist was pretty much "I don't know." -sigh-

Yes, we've pinpointed a pattern too and you can break it.  Since you determined it's that pm time, do something together before the mood kicks in.

It could be as simple as window shop at a nearby mall, visiting with friends, bike riding, whatever; something to occupy her and break the cycle.  It isn't easy, but it is possible... .good luck

Hi 7babies

That sounds really very tough for you both. I'm thinking about her day and she's so so busy, then as she starts to unwind she gets overwhelmed?  Do you think it's the wind down, her being tired and her thoughts take her over?

Bright Day Mom is right that a distraction activity will help break the cycle so it's worth a shot.  I will say though that this is a distraction rather than learning how to self-sooth.

I know you're going to think I'm silly but how was she going to bed when she was little?  In a big noisy household I bet it wasn't easy to be quiet and restful. Did you have any bedtime wind down routines - bath, milk, story, bed kind of thing?

I've read one of the mum's on the forum has taken up yoga with her daughter; something that they can do together and also that's helping both of them unwind, learning how to safely relax.  Just a suggestion.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
