My GP, who has an interest in mental health issues, says she believes it is just a matter of time before a neurobiochemical basis for BPD is proven. She has a relative with BPD, as well as a close relative with schizophrenia. She knows the hurt, the issues, that having someone with a mental illness poses. I must say, that to see so many new members each day on this site, to me, must surely mean that not all of these people parented their children poorly or parented them in a way that reinforced their BPD traits. As a mother with both a uBPD daughter and a schizophrenic son, I've been down the 'guilt' road. Most days I can see that I've done nothing untoward in bringing up my child that anyone else would have done. On other, darker days, the questions lurk in the background. I guess I just wanted say that to see so many families hurt by this illness is so very sad, but perhaps, like Autism, Schizophrenia and Bipolar, an organic basis will soon be found and we can forgive ourselves. To even reach out to this board means we are trying to help our family members, and that surely means we are good people that find ourselves in a, as of now, in a poorly understood situation.
