I have a 23 YO daughter with BPD. We live in NW Indiana. We need help. Our family needs support and our daughter, now that she is 23, is harder to keep "safe". She has been seeing a social worker for years that had an interest in DBT but has since gone off on her own and is more into other types of therapy. She sees a meds doc that prescribes Ritalin for her "depression". Our entire family revolves around one crisis after another brought on by her risky behavior. I watched a video on this website that made me weep. It would be so helpful to talk to others going through the same thing. Like they said, this isn't something you can just talk to your friends about. They don't get it. We need a mental health professional that is skilled in the treatment of this disorder, but just searching online I am coming up with no one.

Welcome Lillygurl, You are so strong. To come here looking for answers and for support that's a big step! You couldn't have said it better " you can't just talk to friends-they don't get it". That's the beauty of this board, we are all for the support of each other.
My BPDD is 35 she has lived with me all her life with the exception of only a few years in group homes and 1 horrible year on her own being homeless with her newborn baby. I hear you about the risky behavior and the crisis's. I hear you also about finding the right counselor, this can be down right weary some. This may sound silly to you but, now that you have found this board breath, take a moment for yourself. Keep going through the lessons they have much to offer. You'll find out that self care is of the utmost importance, and it's not selfish. When you're ready share more of your story. Let me offer you hope h:healing, options, p eositive encouragement.

Hi Lillygurl,
I'd like to join

Self care is really important in times that you need support so that you're not burning the candles at both ends. I like to look at like you can carry the current and more if you're at your baseline of happiness.
It helps to talk to people that are in similar situations like you, you're not alone. How are the other family members coping with D23? I'll leave you for now with another link to our resources.
