Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Welcome Tomlin:
Sorry about your problems with your wife.  Do you and your wife both have custody of your granddaughter?  What is the situation with her parents?  Is your wife abusive to your granddaughter, as well as you?

Has your wife ever gotten treatment for her BPD?  Is she currently in treatment?

How long has your wife been cheating on you with other men?  Is she having emotional relationships with them, or just sex?

Hi Tomlin,

I understand the reluctance. It's tough when there is a child involved.

Lots of us have walked in your shoes and know what it's like. You're not alone.

I hope you'll post more and let us know how you're doing.
