NEW and OVERWHELMED

I went with him to the psych last week, and they admitted him to inpatient psych.  HE heard for 3 days--just to wean off clonazepam... .  He's NOT RIGHT in the head!  His instructions when he would talk to me during visitation was for me to go shopping for a 'pretty casket' because there he will not live another month.  As of last night, he's furious with me that I work today and won't be there to pick him up when they discharge him--because the 3 day 'detox' has been completed.  I know he's safe there--but what am I supposed to do with him if they send him home?  I've told them what he says, and now that makes me part of the 'bad people' to him... .  I feel screwed either way and terribly alone and overwhelmed!

ErronM, you truly are in a tough situation and I'm sorry this is so difficult. By disclosing what he's said, I think you've done the right thing, even though he's put you on his "bad" list. Many of us have been in a similar situation and we're here to help. When you have a chance, please read the lessons on the right side of the page. I hope that they won't discharge him yet and that he will have a time to get centered and that you will have an opportunity to learn new strategies for dealing with his frightening and disruptive behavior.

Can you tell me more about how he came to be in the psych ward?  Also... .is there anyway to keep him in to do more treatment?  Is there going to be a treatment plan when discharged?  Is there a diagnosis?
