Do pwBPD argue whilst in the idolizing phase?

At the end of it, yes.  During, they are mirroring everything and there isn't much to argue about.  They like what you like, easy for a person to do when they don't have a stable sense of self and few solid likes and dislikes.  Then it's feels engulfing when they've taken on so much of another's personality.  Then everything can become an argument as they cast off your likes as contemptable.

What triggers the change from the idolizing stage?

It's their own internal war going on that will trigger it.  They are at war with themselves between abandonment and engulfment.  When the engulfment feelings become overwhelming, devalue of the partner soon follows.
