Is this a form idealization?

My uBPDx was a big astrology buff. She would always meet someone new and immediately ask them what their astrological sign was. After telling her, she would begin to characterize them based on their birthday. Any ideas? Thoughts?

I don't think so. I pathologized many things with my ex. My ex had hobbies and interests. She's a person with difficulties regulating emotions. Your uBPDx was an astrology buff and it's something that she liked. Take it for what it is woofhound.

lots of ppl believe in astrology. thats just what this is. idealization would be if she met someone and starts putting him on a pedestal about how perfect he is or there never has been a person like him etc

it just seems odd to me I guess that she would meet someone and assume they have/don't have certain personality traits.

I think that BPD people have a talent for reading body language and they are always testing for weak points and how to manipulate someone. This gives them abilities that are useful for cold reading. Look up cold reading.
