Does being codependent means caretakers ?

I wonder ,  I do not fit most of the codenpdency traits Maybe few of it .

Does it mean that we have to stop being codependent and caring , and just take care of ourselves Humm ?

Any thoughts ?

Having dependency in a relationship is normal. You rely on the other person for support, validation, etc. Dependency should be reciprocated, like give and take.   The problem is when the dependency becomes maladaptive, meaning one person is constantly giving and not receiving.  Many co-dependent people "self-sacrifice" their own feelings to please the significant other.  Essentially, there should be a healthy balance with enforcing boundaries.  That does not mean you do not have to stop caring about another person and solely focus on yourself.  You have to find an equal balance of taking care of yourself and being there for another person.
