Funny dream about my ex

Several nights ago I had this dream... .

I was in the house I grew up in, in my bedroom (at my current age though), in my bed with uBPD ex, and some naked things happened but no sex. Next thing I know I'm waking up after dozing off for a couple of hours and he's not there in bed with me.  Where is he? I go out into the hallway and on maybe the 3rd, 4th and 5th stairs from the bottom, he's lined up my parents' cats, each is sitting on one stair close to the wall.  (They are not my parents' actual past or current cats, just in the dream I know they're my parents' cats.)  And uBPD ex is at the bottom of the staircase, with a videocamera, filming the cats.  

I was thinking angrily to myself ":)id you drug them?" (in real life uBPD ex uses drugs) I asked "How did you get the cats to do this?"  He said he slowly and quietly talked to them.  

Then I went back to bed.  Then I woke up another few hours later, he's still not beside me in bed.  At this point the house in the dream doesn't resemble the actual house I grew up in, there are additional rooms. I open the door to one room and there are a bunch of people, I think all men, sleeping in about 4 bunk beds, but he's not there.

I go into my dad's office (we're back to the actual house layout now), and uBPD ex is face down on the floor half asleep wearing a shirt and jeans and has a hair dryer pointed at his hip where his pants are wet.  I pull the plug out of the wall, thinking "jeez, you're going to kill yourself here."  He starts talking with a slurred voice (again, drugs) and is saying something about how he went on a date and was complaining that the woman did something to him that resulted in the wet pants, and I said "You left here to go on a date? Are you f***ing serious?" And I was so angry in the dream that I woke myself up.

So, the dream seems to suggest that I see him as unreliable... .but then what's with this "cat whispering" and videotaping?

Has anyone had dreams about their ex that led to useful insights?

I had one where she was caught in a big spider web in a storm.

The closer I got, the more she cursed and yelled at me to stay away.

When I backed off, the more she cursed about how I wasn't helping her.

The night she left I had a lucid flying dream where I drifted over a city at night.  I felt really free and in-tune with the universe - one of those feelings of wholeness that crunchy types always talk about.  It felt amazing.
