Might be a touchy subject but as I stated my ex is going for her Masters in psychology and she is actually really good at it. She taught me a lot and enlightened me on the profession. Anyone else have this experience? Kind of curious

My thought is that she got into the field because she is ultimately trying to figure out what is going on within herself.

I have read elsewhere that many personality disordered individuals are in the field of physiology which makes sense.

Funny thing is I'm seeing a therapist for the first time because of our breakup. Ironic

Who goes into "rescuer" professions? Rescuers.

I'm not BPD, but I thought about going into psychology a lot when I was younger. People, including my mom (and even my therapist) have suggested it over the years.

My T said that there's nothing wrong with being a Rescuer. He grew up with an alcoholic father and said that he was a Rescuer.

I met my ex as a fellow mentor for at-risk youth. Mentoring is a type of rescuing, though the program had good boundaries.

One of my Ex's past boyfriends, whom she idealized as "the perfect husband" wanted to get his PhD in Psychology. He was a narcissistic young man whom I later found out had many problems.

I think it's good that you are seeking objective, professional advice. Take in what works for you, while being open to have your world-view challenged as well.

My exuBPDgf is definitely the "rescuer" type. She always put others needs before her own... .Except with me.    . Although I actually admire this in her and told her so many times it still killed me that she was never able to focus on herself.

I don't believe my T is BPD although he shares a similar background to me. Alcoholic father and codependency issues which is why I chose to continue to work with him. He has told me countless times that a relationship with a BPD WILL NEVER WORK. No matter how hard you want it to. He has advised me to never contact her again for my own good. Hope I can stay true to this... .So far I have but it is not easy especially the last couple days.
