Once again I am getting the silent treatment. How should I respond?

My husband once again is giving me the silent treatment. How should I react?

I'm glad that you decided to reach out to a support group for help. You will find many members here that share similar experiences and can help you with guidance and support. Oh how I wish my wife would give me the silent treatment... .instead she goes on for hours arguing, false accusations, blaming, projection, you name it.  I mean the smallest things go at least an hour it seems.

However, I do understand your pain.  Although it's better than the constant circular arguments, it still hurts and is not ideal.  I just wish we could listen and discuss things calmly but their emotions trump all.

It's so frustrating and painful when you don't know what to do to end the silence or know how long it will last. But these silent periods don't seem to last quite as long when the person with BPD doesn't get the reaction they wanted... .which is often to worry you, distress you, punish you.

I started using silent treatments to catch up with old friends, hobbies, or anything else I can't normally do when he's around. I don't rub it in his face or anything - just use my time for me and try not to let what he's doing affect me. Take of yourself. Distraction helps. Get your nails done, cook a favorite meal, call a friend, whatever gives you peace until he's ready to break the silence. Sorry you are going thru this.
