I think I must be the only person in America that hates Bruno Mars.
After one break up (my ex initiated... .she initiated all of them) my ex returned after a dalliance with someone else. She told me this song reminded her of me and was applicable to our situation:
When I Was Your Man (lyrics)
My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, oh
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes
It all just sounds like ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Mm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party 'cause all you wanted to do was dance
Now my baby's dancing
But she's dancing with another man
The funny thing is she left me for another and I thought this was her "apology song" to she was actually saying MY pride, MY ego, MY selfish ways were what caused her to leave me. This was clarified when she dumped me once again months later.
Sometimes it amazes me the profound effect music has on emotions. I absolutely love music. I used to sing opera and have an appreciation from everything from the Big Band Era to heavy metal. The irony is I've been invited to several Bruno Mars concerts and this just kills it for me. . The song actually makes me agitated. Yes, I should have bought you flowers so the next day you could cheat on me and call me an a-hole. .
The best was the week of the final discard my ex loved this ditty. She told me this reminded her of us too:
Honey I'm Good-Andy Grammer
[Verse 1:]
It’s been a long night here, and a long night there
And these long long legs are damn near everywhere
(hold up now)
You look good, I will not lie
But if you ask where I’m staying tonight
I gotta be like oh, baby, no, baby, you got me all wrong, baby
My baby’s already got all of my love
[Chorus:]
So nah nah honey, I’m good
I could have another but I probably should not
I got somebody at home,
And if I stay I might not leave alone
No, honey, I’m good
I could have another but I probably should not
I gotta bid you adieu
As she dumped me for someone she ironically hooked up with at a bar (a mutual friend we met at the same time).

Adele - Set Fire to the Rain - she listened to it obsessively during a meltdown and then post discard sent it to me (google lyrics email) at about 3 am in morning... .
And of course we had a million "love songs"... None of which I can listen to anymore (too painful)...

Try a nice empowering one... .the Struts "Kiss This"! Wish I was smart enough to embed the link here, but listening to this always makes me smile... ."You were bad for me so I'm gone for good'!
I need to listen to this again but I'm at work and they would frown at the volume... .

That's kinda what I feel about Eminem's "Without Me". Whenever that comes on my Pandora I totally blast it. There is a line:
"I just settled all my lawsuits, FU Debbie"
My ex's name rhymes with Debbie and I just insert it there. . It's a pretty misogynistic song but for some reason it gives me a boost with that line. In my head I give her the finger and then I move on for the day.
I can't wait to reach indifference!
