Hello I am trying to find inpatient programs in Canada (even private) that aren't addiction based. Young adult (25) male suffering with BPD on 3 day inpatient hold but no appropriate placements without concurrent addictions. All suggestions welcome. Must be inpatient, Must be DBT, and must not require an addiction. His family is desperate as he is willing to go but there doesn't seem to be anything suitable. All help appreciated.

Hi Hope2727.  I see there is a time limit on your request.  I am sorry I did not see this sooner.

I looked for RTCs in Canada and came up with this on a google search (though I imagine you already did that)

https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/treatment-rehab/borderline-personality/ontario

I did not find any mention of an RTC in canada on this site but that does not mean there isn't one.

Do you have any news about this young man?

You are looking for help in finding a DBT program in Canada. My heart goes out to you trying to find help for a young man. I suggest you reach out to the experts in DBT in Canada and the United States as they will know the main resources out there, and will have many ideas on what to do. I appreciate your kindness and generosity in trying to help friends, who are probably just overwhelmed by the situation with the young man. Please get back to us, and let us know how everything is going, particularly if you find some good resources for DBT in Canada.

Hi thanks for the replies. It seems like the bulk of the programs are out patient and he is enrolled in one but her really wants inpatient. He has left outpatient programs before and he (and his family) feel he will again so very frustrating.

Maybe the family can get training in DBT. What works best in nearly all cases of serious mental illness, is the right kind of supportive family environment, as those who have heartbreaking mental illness are rarely able to maintain stability without steady reinforcement from the family.

Hi Hope 2727:

The link below will take you to a website associated with Marsha linehan.  Perhaps you might be able to contact someone there for a possible lead for an in-patient source.  You might, also, contact some large hospitals in your area, that provide mental health services (perhaps a teaching hospital).

Hi no-one. Thanks for the link. We actually did all that. There is only one inpatient program in the area and it has a huge waiting list. He will have to manage with a n out patient program (of which there are many) but it is unlikely he will stick it out. We shall see I guess. Thank you to everyone who responded.
